Opera Australia’s community choirs program aims to increase connection with communities around Australia, supporting a vibrant cultural and artistic life around the nation.
Opera Australia’s Community Choir program is currently active in Sydney and Melbourne, with a new community choir to be formed on the Gold Coast in 2014.
Melbourne Community Choirs
In 2013 project Choral Conductor Dr Jonathon Welch AM is preparing well loved opera choruses with some 400 singers in groups across Brimbank, Casey and Latrobe City as well as the Choir of Hope and Inspiration, and THECHO!R.
Mazda’s Opera in the Bowl will be a spectacular free evening under the stars featuring Opera Australia soloists, accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and supported by Opera Australia's Melbourne Community Choirs. Brought to you by Principal Partner Mazda Australia.

Sydney Community Choirs
Under the inspirational direction of their community leaders and Opera Australia conductor Simon Kenway, 400 singers from across Western Sydney will come together again in 2014 for a massive performance at the Sydney Opera House, supported by the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and soloists from Opera Australia. Full details of the 2014 program will be announced in October 2013.
Gold Coast Community Choir
Community singers from the Gold Coast will be invited to be part of Opera Australia’s inaugural Opera on the Beach on the shores of Greenmount Beach in Coolangatta in May 2014.
The community singers will form the chorus for this spectacular production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute under the guidance of Opera Australia conductor, Simon Kenway.
