Jane Ede


Sydney born Jane Ede completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts (Music/Acting) at the Wollongong University before graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium in 2000 with a Diploma of Opera. In 2010 she joined the Opera Australia Moffatt Oxenbould Young Artist program. 

Jane’s 2013 engagements for Opera Australia include Diana in Orpheus in the Underworld and Wellgunde in Das Rheingold and Götterdämmerung (Opera Australia’s Melbourne Ring Cycle).

Recent performances for Opera Australia include Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, First Lady in The Magic Flute, Donna Elvira (OzOpera) in Don Giovanni, Frasquita in Carmen, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Ellen in Lakmé, the Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto, Mrs Segstrom in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, Lucy and Nurse 2 in the world premiere of Brett Dean’s Bliss and Kate Pinkerton and Cio-Cio San (OzOpera) in Madama Butterfly. Jane also performed as soloist in the world premiere of Robert J. Bradshaw’s chamber opera Gabriel for the International Trumpet Guild conference in 2010.

Other roles include Fiametta in Gondoliers, 2nd Novice in Suor Angelica, Edith and Isobel in Opera Australia’s national tour of The Pirates of Penzance, Pamina in The Magic Flute, Gretel/Witch in Hansel and Gretel and Clown/Juggler in Sid the Serpent for OA’s School’s Tours and all soprano roles in The Flight of Les Darcy for Music Theatre Sydney.

Jane’s performance experience encompasses opera, recitals, oratorio and musical theatre.  Her oratorio repertoire includes; The Seasonings, The Wife of Bath, Chants D’Auvergne (Canteloube), Dona Nobis Pacem (Vaughan Williams), Gloria (Vivaldi), Ode on St Cecilia’s Day and Messiah (Handel), Petite Messe Solennelle (Rossini), Laudate Dominum, Exultate Jubilate and Mass in C (Mozart), Cantata ‘Wachet Auf’ (Bach) and Requiem (Fauré).  She has also performed a program of Verdi repertoire for the Societe Raffaele de Noumea and a program of Mozart repertoire that was televised on RFO.  She appeared as the featured singer on an episode of Sleek Geeks on ABC TV in 2007.

Jane has been a finalist in the McDonalds Operatic Aria Award, Opera Foundation Australia’s New York Study Award, Covent Garden Opera Study Scholarship and Metropolitan Opera Award.
