Calling all interested singers, both amateur and professional, and members of the Gold Coast Community! We invite you to be a part of an historic Gold Coast event: Opera Australia’s Opera on the Beach 2014. Opera on the Beach is presented by Opera Australia in partnership with Bleach* Festival, City of The Gold Coast and Tourism & Events Queensland.
These pages contain useful information about our audition process, rehearsals and the production itself. We will also be adding information to the frequently asked questions section as enquiries arise.
About this community project
In May 2014, Opera Australia will undertake a landmark, English language production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Directed by Michael Gow, it will be a uniquely Australian production of one of the world’s favourite operas. It will be staged on Greenmount Beach on the Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast Community Choir is a communities initiative by Opera Australia. The Community Choir will be comprised of volunteer singers from local areas, and will make up the chorus of the production. The Choir will perform the finales of Acts I and II, alongside the Opera Australia soloists. An integral part of the production, the Community Choir will be instrumental in bringing the community heart and soul to this very special event.
We are looking for forty voices! Forty volunteers from local areas, who are excited and enthusiastic to explore joy of singing, and to bring a true sense of community to this extraordinary event, Opera on the Beach.
Please note that participation in the Gold Coast Community Choir is voluntary and no member of the Community Choir will receive renumeration for their involvement in the project.
All Gold Coast Community Choir members will need to be able to commit to the rehearsal and production schedule in 2014.Learn More
