Opera Australia is diving into sixty years of costumes, accessories, artworks and memorabilia in an anniversary exhibition at The Opera Centre in June 2017.
The week-long event will culminate in an auction where the public can bid for an exclusive piece of Australia’s operatic story.

Costume for Desirée in Opera Australia's 2009 production of A Little Night Music (Sondheim). Worn by Sigrid Thornton.

This costume is constructed from purple taffeta in three pieces, including a bodice, skirt and petticoat in the Edwardian style. It features pleated sleeves with black lace trim and heavy embellishments to the bodice and skirt using sequins, beads and braid.

This embellished brocade gown is constructed in two pieces in the Elizabethan style and features an elaborate ruffle collar, trunk sleeves trimmed with grosgrain, lace and faux pearls, a bodice and skirt decorated with floral and bow embellishments finished with faux stones. It is accompanied by a sun shaped gilt halo supported by a concealed harness, all over a heavy weight quilted crinoline.

This costume includes a painted and fabric applied lace-front wig, a heavily distressed and effected jacket with a bib over the vest and pantaloons, together with a tulle skirt, all in bright yellow and purple hues.high resolution

This costume is constructed in the Edwardian style from red velvet, with sequin embellishment and ostrich feather trim, jewels and a matching hat.

This costume comprises of a large shapeless robe with a long train in poly-silk. The accompanying matched outer robe has green silk sleeves that terminate in a pink and gold woven edge imitating Indian textile, together with a matched belt.
