Puppet-Making Workshops at The Magic Flute

Opera Australia’s colourful production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute is by director, puppeteer and designer Julie Taymor, who famously also directed The Lion King. Taymor’s childhood experiences with puppetry and masks have had a huge influence over her successful international career.

In this workshop, children will explore puppetry techniques that Taymor used to create this visually stunning production of The Magic Flute. They will be assisted by Opera Australia’s expert puppeteers.

In each session, children will be grouped into similar age ranges. Each group will explore a different form of story-telling with puppetry. Using supplied materials, participants will learn how to make their own fantastic puppets inspired by Flute characters.

Imagination is key!
