Regional Children's Chorus

Let the children sing…

We love opera. It lifts your spirits, ignites your imagination and transforms the everyday into the spectacular. We want to share the joy of opera with Australia's children.

Our Regional Children’s Chorus is a unique opportunity for children in remote and regional areas to participate in an opera alongside professional opera singers.

Next year we tour a new production of The Marriage of Figaro and such has been the success of the Regional Children’s Chorus that this production has been specially devised to include children in the opera.

Up to twenty-four children in each town will take on the roles of servants of the household and will be taught to sing Mozart’s sublime music.

A chorus master travels ahead of the touring party to prepare the children in each town on the tour. The local children’s chorus then attend a rehearsal with the conductor and make their debuts in a live performance in front of a local audience.

By involving families, schools and the wider community, the event also leaves behind a lasting legacy of musical appreciation as well as skills and knowledge to be shared with future generations.

This program, however, is one which requires considerable support each year and we are seeking your donation so that we can continue to invest in this life-changing program.

“Children still stop me in the street to talk about how wonderful it was to be involved.”

“After the performance they were rapt, in ecstatic delight ….. I noticed the parents were in a similar state with tears of joy and hugs abounding.”

Jan Murphy, Local Choir Leader, Katherine NT
