Jim Atkins

Jim Atkins has had a long career in audio production, incorporating sound engineering and sound design. Recent work has included design and operation for Victorian Opera’s trilogy of Sondheim musicals (Sunday in the Park with George, Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd), as well as sound design for the 2013 Opera Australia Ring Cycle.

Other productions include: Mazda Opera in the Bowl, Bliss, The Merry Widow (Opera Australia); The Riders, The Flying Dutchman, Nixon in China, Maria de Buenos Aires (Victorian Opera); Songs From the Middle (Eddie Perfect/ANAM at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival); Acoustic Life of Sheds, Namatjira (Big hART); En Masse (Genevieve Lacy at Melbourne Festival, White Night, Adelaide Festival, Synesthesia Festival, MONA FOMA); Conversations with Ghosts (Paul Kelly, Jim Ledger, ANAM at Melbourne International Arts Festival, Brisbane Festival); These Compulsive Behaviours, Hard Road Concert (Melbourne Festival); Chroma, 50th Anniversary Gala (The Australia Ballet); Ben Folds with the MSO, Sidney Myer Music Bowl Free Concerts (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra); Victorian Schools Spectacular.

In addition to his live performance work, Jim has credits on well over 100 major label CD releases with a diverse range of international artists, including Yvonne Kenny, Barry Humphries and Paul Kelly. This included two recordings with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra which received the Diapason d’Or, and recordings of Conversations with Ghosts (Paul Kelly/ANAM) and Simple Gifts (Yvonne Kenny/MSO), both which received Aria awards.
