Medet Chotabaev

Medet studied at the Tulebaev Music College in Almaty and the Renata Tebaldi and Mario Del Monaco Academy in Pesaro. He was awarded the Grand Prix in the 2009 Art of the 21st Century International Competition in Finland, the 1st Prize and “The best tenor of the competition” Special Prize in the 2009 Glinka International Singing Competition in Moscow, the 3rd Prize in the 2010 International Opera Competition in Paris, and the 1st Prize in the 2013 Arena di Verona Concorso Internazionale di Canto.



After making his professional debut at the Opera Theatre in Almaty, he was invited to join the company for 5 seasons. In the 2013/14 season Medet Chotobaev became principal soloist of the Astana Opera in Kazakhstan where he performed Duca in Rigoletto, Nemorino in L'elisir d'amore, Rodolfo in La bohème, Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, Cavaradossi in Tosca, Lensky in Eugene Onegin, Rodolfo in Luisa Miller, and Alfredo in La traviata, among others. Guest appearances have included Rodolfo in Luisa Miller in Piacenza and Ravenna, Italy.



Other roles performed include Alfredo in La traviata and Rodolfo in La bohème in Astana, Rodolfo in Luisa Miller in Trieste, Cassio in Otello and Lensky in Eugene Onegin both with Teatro Municipal de Sao Paulo, Fenton in Falstaff in Geneva, Pollione in Norma for Oper Graz, and Lensky in Eugene Onegin in Bratislava.
