An orange dress with hand-embroidered gold detail

Opera Australia’s Costume and Memorabilia Auction

In the Opera Australia archives, intricate embroidered silk lies under rustling archival tissue paper. Boxes of pannier skirts wait patiently for another set of hips to adorn. Medieval suits of armour glint in the darkness.

It’s a hidden world too wonderful to imagine. But you don’t have to — you can see it for yourself.

We’re diving into sixty years of costumes, props and memorabilia in an anniversary exhibition at The Opera Centre, culminating in an auction where you can bid for a piece of Australia’s operatic story.

Whether you want a talking point for the mantelpiece or a wonderful costume to step into when you’re feeling a little dramatic, you won’t find artistry like this at any gallery.
