Frequently Asked Questions

If you currently have tickets as part of a Sydney Set Series, there will be changes to your subscription in 2017.

The Joan Sutherland Theatre is closing from May–December 2017 for much-needed safety improvements, so we're taking the opportunity to make the most of venues across Sydney.

The season’s highlights include concert performances of Parsifal, starring Jonas Kaufmann; Massenet’s Thaïs, starring Nicole Car; and the Verdi Requiem, starring the Opera Australia Chorus.

The world’s greatest bass, Ferruccio Furlanetto, returns to perform two recitals after his triumph in Don Carlos. And we’re also premiering a newly-created operetta: Two Weddings, One Bride combines favourite songs by Strauss, Lehár and more.

In the Joan Sutherland Theatre, we will perform five operas, including two new co-productions with the Royal Opera House — Cavalleria Rusticana Pagliacci and Szymanowski’s King Roger.

You can book a Choose Your Own package with any combination of performances, and if you book early, there is a very good chance you can secure your preferred seats, or similar ones.

Why can’t you offer me my Set Series package in 2017?

By subscribing to a Set Series, you retain the same seat for every performance because every performance is in the same theatre. In 2017, performances will take place in many different venues so it’s impossible to offer you the same seat each time. In addition, the concerts and recitals we’ve planned during the closure period have only a limited number of performances.

Rather than assuming that you want to go to other venues and see opera presented in different ways, we are leaving it to you to create your own subscription package, choosing the performances, venues, dates and seats that suit you.

Can I still subscribe?

Yes, you can book a Choose Your Own package with a minimum of three productions. You choose which productions you would like to see on which dates. If you book your subscription package online, you can also choose your own seats.

Will I get my seats in 2017?

No, we cannot promise you your seats in 2017. However, if you book early, there is a good chance that your preferred seats will be available. If you book a Choose Your Own package online, you can select your own seats from all that are available.

Can I go on my regular night of the week?

You can choose any performance as part of a Choose Your Own package.

Will I be able to get my seats back in the future?

Regardless of whether you subscribe in 2017, we will hold your 2016 seats for the 2018 season. We will invite you to renew your subscription next year in the usual way.
