Why do you do the job that you do? I can't imagine a life without opera. I love performing.
Who has influenced you most professionally? Leontyne Price, Monserrat Caballé, Joan Sutherland and Maria Callas all inspire my singing in different ways.
Is there any other profession that you would have liked to have followed? For a while I thought I would be a jazz singer, but I love the stage too much!
What is your idea of perfect happiness? A long breakfast on a sunny day, reading the newspaper, doing the crossword.
If you could have dinner with a historical figure, who would it be? Probably Mozart. I'd love to know how his brain worked.
What is your greatest extravagance? Day spas.
One thing you regret is… can't have regrets.
If you could have any opera character as a friend, who would it be, and why? Lucia Di Lammermoor, because I would always be the sane one!
Who or what is the love of your life? My husband Rob. He is so supportive of me.
What are you optimistic about? Life! I'm very fortunate to be working in a field that I love.
You would like to devote more time to… cooking. I love trying out new recipes – it’s very relaxing. There's never enough time though.
What is your favourite food? Scones. Every year the girls and I have a scone-baking extravaganza.
What is your most treasured possession? I should say my voice or my engagement ring, but it's actually my hair straightener!
Which is the opera that got you hooked? I saw Tosca when I was 17 and was hooked straight away. I started classical singing lessons the week after and haven't looked back.
Which opera do you never need to hear again? None yet. I always find new things to interest me in whatever opera I'm listening to.
What is your idea of misery? Not having friends and family around.
You still hope to… sing lots of Verdi and Puccini.
Which characteristics do you most admire in others? Strength, kindness and compassion
What type of holiday do you most enjoy? I like the idea of just relaxing on a beach somewhere, but inevitably I would get bored and want to go and explore.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I'm pretty stubborn!
Who is your favourite band? I don't really listen to commercial radio enough to have one. Sad, I know!
You spend too much money on… Handbags, although if I didn't have such big feet it would definitely be shoes.
Your greatest achievement has been… singing on the Sydney Opera House stage.
The book everyone loved but you could not finish was.... Anna Karenina. I wanted to read it but kept getting confused with all those Russian names.
What is your favourite kitchen appliance? My coffee machine – can’t live without it.
How do you stay up to date with new technology and trends? I do love my Iphone, but that's about as technologically savvy as I get!
Who is your favourite heart throb? Colin Firth – you can’t go past Mr Darcy.
