Chris Martin

Chris began his musical journey by learning the trombone in high school, but he soon decided that playing the bassoon would be his career path. He studied at the Victorian College of the Arts, where he performed regularly in chamber ensembles and with the University Orchestra. He then undertook an intensive three-year course at the Australian National Academy of Music focusing on orchestral performance and versatility in chamber music repertoire. In recent years, Chris has maintained a steady freelance career, appearing with Opera Australia, the Victorian Opera, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Melbourne Opera, Corpus Medicorum and Monash University. He also continues to explore the solo and small chamber repertoire for the French bassoon, an instrument rarely seen outside of France.
