Jane Magão
Having completed her tenure as a Young Artist with Melbourne Opera in 2022, soprano Jane Magão made her Opera Australia principal cast debut as Musetta in the 2024 national tour of La bohème, and returns in 2026 to perform the role of Zerlina in Don Giovanni. Her previous operatic roles, performed with various companies, include Sophie (Werther), Despina (Così fan tutte), Galatea (Acis and Galatea), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Soeur Constance (Dialogues des Carmélites), and the Dew Fairy (Hänsel und Gretel).
Jane is a prize winner in several prestigious competitions, including runner-up in the 2021 and 2023 Herald Sun Aria competitions, and winner of the 2024 National Liederfest. Her oratorio engagements include soprano soloist in Carl OrS’s Carmina Burana (Melbourne Bach Society, 2025) and Handel’s Messiah (Penrith Symphony Orchestra, 2026).
A recording artist, Jane was the soprano soloist for the UK label Toccata Classics in Winter Came Early (2022), a work by Australian composer Linda Kouvaras for soprano and mezzo-soprano. She premiered the work at Melbourne Recital Hall before recording it professionally for release.
As a stage director, Jane received a Green Room Award nomination in 2021 for her work with IOpera (Così fan tutte), and has since produced and directed Acis and Galatea (Handel) and The Medium (Menotti). Passionate about education, Jane is also a fully qualified secondary music and Italian teacher, currently teaching Public Speaking at Reddam House North Shore.
