Brigitte Reiffenstuel

Brigitte Reiffenstuel was born in Munich and studied at the London College of Fashion, and Central St Martins College of Art and Design. She won the 2015 Dora Mavor Moore Award for Outstanding Costume (Falstaff, Canadian Opera Company) and the 2013 Oscar della Lirica award for achievement in costume design at the International Opera Awards.

In the UK, she has designed extensively for the Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Glyndebourne. Many of these productions have gone on to tour internationally including Falstaff (ROH, Canadian Opera, La Scala, Metropolitan Opera, and Dutch National Opera), Peter Grimes (ENO, Oviedo, De Vlaamse Opera and Deutsche Oper, and Berlin), Faust (ROH, Opera de Lille, Monte Carlo, Trieste, Valencia, and Australia), and Giulio Cesare (Glyndebourne, Metropolitan Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera and Opera de Lille).

In Europe, she has designed costumes for performances at Opernhaus Zürich, Théâtre du Châtelet, Deutsche Oper Berlin, La Scala Milano, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Staatstheater Stuttgart, Komische Oper Berlin, Frankfurt Opera, Dusseldorf Opera and many more.

Recent work has included Lucia di Lammermoor for the Fundacion del Teatro Real, Madrid, Der Rosenkavalier for ROH and Metropolitan Opera, La Rondine (Oper Graz), Lucia di Lammermoor (Theater der Bundesstadt Bonn), Kiss Me Kate (Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris), Madama Butterly (Los Angeles Opera) and costumes for singer Kate Bush’s album tour, Before The Dawn.

Upcoming productions include Kiss Me Kate for Oper Graz, and Twelfth Night for the Young Vic, among other projects.
