Fufan Zhang

Fufan Zhang is a set designer and visual artist from China. Influenced by her family of professional Peking Opera singers, Fufan is fascinated by theatre, opera, dance, and film. During her artistic edification, Fufan has found set design to be a fluid dialogue between performance and life.

Fufan was a resident scenic designer at National Sawdust for its 2017 season and a Donald M. Oenslager fellowship Award in Design recipient. She also received her Master of Fine Arts from Yale School of Drama in 2017.

Fufan’s set design credits include: We are not well (The Lee Strasberg Theater), The Nutcracker (The Garde Arts Center), Arsonist, Where All the Good Rabbits go (Thrown Stone Theatre Company), Winterreise Festival (National Sawdust), Seven Guitars (Yale Repertory Theatre), The Oresteia, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Amy and the Orphans (Yale School of Drama), Mies Julie, Phaedra’s Love (Yale Summer Cabaret), Salt Pepper Ketchup (Yale Cabaret).

Prior to attending Yale University, Fufan received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in stage, film, and television design from The Central Academy of Drama in Beijing, China. Fufan’s other credits included Production Design for Yamakawa, a series of photographs; Art Director for The Terrorists (Best Foreign Short Film Award – Seoul International Youth Film Festival, 2012), Scenic Design for Yashan (Excellent Play in Students’ Drama Festival of Gold Hedgehog, Beijing, 2013) and Show Time (Best Film, 1st Place – 48 Hour Film Project, Beijing, China, 2014).
