Ryan O'Donnell


Australian-Filipino tenor Ryan O’Donnell completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2017. He has performed as a soloist in concerts, recitals, and operas. He has been awarded multiple touring scholarships, representing the Sydney Conservatorium of Music at the 2016 Estivo European Chamber Music Summer School in Verona, Italy, and the 2015 New Northern Tour, touring northern NSW. Recent highlights include receiving the 2017 Berlin Opera Academy Elizabeth Luxon Memorial Scholarship and the Robert Earl White Memorial Scholarship, being a finalist in the 2015 Elizabeth Todd Lieder Scholarship, along with performing as a 2017 Pacific Opera Sponsored Young Artist.

Operatic roles include Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte) for Berlin Opera Academy and the Sydney Conservatorium, Tamino (Die Zauberflöte – cover) for the Sydney Conservatorium, Acis (Acis and Galatea) for the Peninsula Summer Music Festival, Mr Grey in the Australian premiere of Joseph Horowitz’s chamber opera Gentleman’s Island for Operantics, and Dr. Graham (The English Eccentrics) for the Sydney Conservatorium. Concert engagements as a soloist include the Bach Magnificat, Handel’s Messiah, Vaughan Williams’ On Wenlock Edge, and Britten’s St Nicholas. Ryan has also performed principal roles across other genres, including Ralph Rackstraw (HMS Pinafore), John Howard (Keating! The Musical), The Beast (Beauty and the Beast) and Crisostomo Ibarra in workshops for a new musical adaptation of Noli me Tangere.

2018 sees Ryan performing as the Tamino/Papageno swing with Opera Australia’s NSW Schools Touring Company.
