New Year’s Eve Opera Gala Concert at Sydney Opera House
We’re looking forward to celebrating New Year’s Eve with you.
Please take a few minutes to read the information below to help your evening run smoothly.
Key times
Pre-performance dinner (Northern Foyer – Concert Hall)
- 4:30pm: Main event entrance on Macquarie Street opens for dinner guests
- 5:00pm: Drinks service begins
- 5:30pm: Dinner service begins
Opera Gala Concert (Concert Hall)
- 5:30pm: Main event entrance opens on Macquarie Street for Opera Gala Concert ticket holders
- 7:45pm: Performance begins
- 8:45pm: 40-minute interval for the 9pm fireworks
- 10:30pm: Performance ends
Midnight Party (Northern Foyer – Concert Hall)
- 10:30pm: Midnight Party begins after the concert
- 11:00pm: A Moment of Unity will be observed to honour the communities affected by the recent Bondi tragedy. During this moment of reflection, patrons will be invited to pause and shine a phone or torch light in solidarity.
- 1:30am: Midnight Party finishes
Please note nobody can enter the Sydney Opera House after 10pm. Outdoor balconies will be subject to capacity limits for the 9pm fireworks and Midnight Party. Once full, access will close and patrons will be directed to indoor viewing areas, with excellent harbour views from the theatre foyers.
Getting there & entry (important)
We strongly recommend public transport and allowing extra time. Significant road closures and large crowds are expected.
- No direct public transport to Circular Quay after 3pm
- No vehicle access to the Sydney Opera House Wilson Car Park
- We recommend travelling to Martin Place, then walking via Macquarie Street
All patrons must enter via the official event entrance at the corner of Macquarie Street and Phillip Lane.
- All tickets will be scanned and wristbands issued at this entrance
- Expect a 900m walk to the theatre through security checkpoints

If you have difficulty with stairs or walking distances, or require assistance, please contact the Sydney Opera House to discuss before the event: (02) 9250 7777.
Accessible buggy transport from the corner of Macquarie Street and Bent Street to the theatre must be pre-booked by emailing accessibility@sydneyoperahouse.com.
For city-wide transport assistance on the night, contact the Sydney New Year’s Eve Accessibility Officer: (02) 9265 9333.
At the end of the night
Road closures will remain in place after midnight. Public transport is recommended.
The nearest secure taxi rank is approx. 2km away on Liverpool Street (south of Hyde Park). Taxis will be limited and ride-share services may use surge pricing.

Dress code
We encourage you to dress up and make a night of it. A cloakroom is available.
Safety & conditions of entry
- Bags and personal items will be subject to inspection or x-ray screening
- This is a fully licensed event — no food or drink may be brought in
- Large bags, umbrellas and bulky items must be cloaked
