Background: Korean-born tenor Simon Changhwan Kim completed his vocal studies at Kyung-Hee University before pursuing postgraduate training at the Conservatorio di Genova, Musica Umbra in Perugia, and the Salzburg Mozarteum. During his time in Italy, he won multiple first prizes in international vocal competitions and appeared as a soloist in numerous concerts. Since relocating to Sydney in 2009, Simon has built an extensive performance career with Opera Australia, singing principal roles including Calaf (Turandot), Rodolfo (La bohème), Nisias (Thaïs), Macduff (Macbeth), and more. His repertoire beyond Opera Australia includes Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Alfredo (La traviata), Rodolfo (La bohème), and the title role in Werther. On the concert platform, he has appeared as a tenor soloist in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Verdi’s Requiem, performing with all major Korean symphony orchestras, the Central Russia National Orchestra, and the Ukraine Symphony Orchestra. In Australia, his engagements include Opera in the Domain, BMW Gala (Melbourne), and Opera Queensland.
