Ticketing Policy

Conditions of Sale

  1. Tickets are sold for and on behalf of Opera Australia; Tickets are subject to Opera Australia's conditions of sale and to the requirements of the venue at which the activity is presented.
  2. The right of admission is reserved.
  3. The right is reserved to vary, substitute or withdraw advertised programs, artists, and seating arrangements.
  4. No refunds or exchanges except as in Entertainment industry Code of Fair Practice.
  5. Subscription tickets may be exchanged; such exchanges are subject to availability and will be performed in accordance with the current terms specified by the subscription exchange service.
  6. Cameras and other recording devices are prohibited in the venue's auditorium. Mobile telephones, pagers and so forth must be turned off before entry into the venue’s auditorium.
  7. Opera Australia reserves the right to record, broadcast and simulcast any performances.
  8. This ticket is valid only when purchased from Opera Australia or an authorized agent.
  9. Performances may be unsuitable for children under eight years of age. All patrons, irrespective of age, must hold a valid ticket.
  10. Patrons arriving late will not be admitted into the venue’s auditorium unless there is a suitable break in the performance. Patrons who disrupt a performance may be ejected from the venue.

Concession Policy

Where a concession price is offered, it is available to:

  • Australian Pensioners
  • Full-time Australian students
  • Children aged 16 years and under

When placing your booking you will need to provide proof of age, student ID, or Pensioner concession card, and be able to present this, if requested, at performances.


Subscription Policy

Tickets sold to Opera Australia performances are subject to Opera Australia’s conditions of sale and to the requirements of the venue at which our performances are presented.

Payment by cheque, money order or credit card must accompany your application. Instalment payments are available for subscription packages paid for with a credit card.  Your cheque or money order will be banked, or credit card will be debited, on receipt of your application to establish priority for your application within Opera Australia’s ticketing system.

Set Series packages will be available until Friday 11 September 2015. Choose Your Own subscriptions will be accepted throughout the season.

Should Opera Australia be unable to satisfy ticket requests, the customer will be contacted and alternatives discussed or monies refunded.

Exchanges are available from 12 October 2015 until two (2) working days before a performance. Subscribers may exchange tickets at no cost; all other ticket exchanges incur a fee of $18 per ticket. Exchanges are subject to availability and can only be processed through Opera Australia. Tickets for Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour — Turandot may only be exchanged until 1 March 2016. Pinchgut Opera tickets may not be exchanged.


Attendance Policies

Latecomers

For the comfort and convenience of all patrons, latecomers can only be admitted into the auditorium at a suitable break in the performance. Suitable breaks vary between operas and may not be until the first interval. If a suitable break prior to interval is identified, latecomers may not be seated in their ticketed seats, rather in an area adjacent an entrance, where minimal disruption will be caused to seated attendees. This is at the discretion of venue staff. Ticket refunds or exchanges are not available on the basis of late arrival. Opera Australia strongly recommends planning your journey to ensure you arrive at the venue well in advance of the scheduled performance commencement.

Children and infants attending the Opera

All attendees, regardless of age, must hold a valid ticket to be admitted to the auditorium. This includes children and infants who must have their own seat, and cannot sit on the lap of a parent or guardian. We ask that parents and guardians consider the comfort and enjoyment of other audience members if bringing infants and small children to the Opera.

Persons aged under 16 years must be accompanied by a ticketed adult.

For the safety and security of all patrons, prams or baby capsules of any description cannot be taken into the auditorium. Aisles, stairways and stairwells must be kept clear at all times.

Lost tickets

If tickets are lost replacement tickets can be collected from the Opera Australia Customer Service Desk from one hour before the start of the performance.

Exchange or return of tickets

Tickets that have been paid for cannot be refunded or returned. Tickets may be exchanged for another performance up until 1 March 2016. Changes in the cast or the programme do not entitle holders to return or exchange tickets.

Cancellation or transfer of a performance

Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is an open-air and all weather event. The venue, audience seating, and the stage are completely uncovered. The special nature of this event will be appreciated by visitors from all over the world who understand that there is a certain risk of bad weather. As the event is an all-weather experience, Opera Australia is committed to going ahead with a performance of Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour even in unfavourable weather conditions.

We endeavour to perform in all weather conditions and in some weather conditions we implement a wet weather performance contingency plan, which is created by the director and team during rehearsals and adapts the performance to ensure performer and crew safety. 

We will only cancel a performance during electrical storms (within 10km radius) or during times of extremely high winds and/or rain. The decision to cancel a performance is not made until 7.30pm or later and a cancellation may be called during the performance.  Please plan to travel to the venue for a 7.30pm performance start time even in unfavourable weather conditions.

Sydney weather is full of surprises so we therefore recommend that for the comfort of our guests that they dress with this in mind and bring warm and rainproof clothing. Please note that although umbrellas can be brought to the venue, out of consideration for other members of the audience they cannot be used during the performance.

In some cases due to weather conditions, Turandot may have a delayed start time or be paused by up to 50 minutes at any point throughout the performance.  When delaying a performance, Opera Australia must consider the safety of its performers in calling a performance stop.

If a performance is cancelled prior to interval, ticket holders can exchange the ticket for a subsequent performance or have the ticket price refunded in full.  Customers should contact the organisation from whom they purchased their tickets (i.e. Opera Australia, Ticketmaster, Sydney Opera House or other agent) to organise an exchange or refund the next business day.

Auxiliary expenses, including travel, accommodation or hospitality, which you have arranged in conjunction with the performance are at your own risk and not refundable by Opera Australia.

Food and beverages booked and purchased in advance

Food and beverages which are booked and paid for in advance (including pre-performance, interval and post-performance hospitality) are not exchangeable and are non-refundable.

By purchasing food and beverages in advance, you confirm that you are aged 18 or over.

Food and beverages booked and purchased in advance must be claimed on the performance date stated on the voucher.

All advance orders of food and beverages will be available on the evening of the performance for which they were booked regardless of whether or not the actual performance is subsequently cancelled or abandoned as the result of bad weather.  In the case of unfavourable weather conditions, advance orders of food and beverages are served under cover.

Only food and beverages purchased at the venue will be permitted into the venue — sorry, no BYO.

Admission

A ticket is valid only when purchased from Opera Australia or an authorised agent.

The right of admission is reserved and Opera Australia reserves the right to inspect bags of patrons who enter or exit the venue regardless of size.

Each individual entering the venue must have a valid ticket regardless of age. Babes in arms are not permitted.

Persons aged under 16 years must be accompanied by a ticketed adult.

The venue is largely non-smoking. A small designated smoking area will be available towards the back of the venue, please ask venue staff to be directed to this area.

Patrons who disrupt a performance may be ejected from the venue.

Cloak Room facilities are not available at the venue.  Patron’s wishes to bring personal items into the venue do so at their own risk.  Opera Australia will not take responsibility for any items which are lost or damaged on the site.

Bulky items are not permitted in the venue, however strollers and prams may be left with front-of-house.

Unauthorised soliciting and customer surveying, not authorised by Opera Australia, is not permitted.

The Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour venue will be open at 5pm on all performance days. Please be reminded that the gates to the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney will be closed from 6.30pm in March and 6pm in April.

Patrons are reminded that the venue is a place of natural beauty and should be respected – please don’t collect plants or flowers, climb on the trees or walk on garden beds.

Late arrivals

Group Booking Policy

The following terms and conditions apply to bookings of less than 200 tickets. For bookings of 200 or more tickets for a single performance, additional conditions may be applicable.

If you purchase 8 or more tickets for the same performance in the same reserve, you will receive a discount of up to 20%.

Group tickets cannot be transferred or exchanged.

Booking Deposit

No deposit is required. Seats will be held until six weeks (42 days) prior to the performance, at which time confirmation of booking and final ticket numbers are due.

Payment

Payment is due no later than six weeks (42 days) prior to the performance. If your payment is not received within these terms, your booking may be cancelled.

Cancellations, no shows and reduction in numbers

Once payment has been made, no refund is possible. We cannot refund you for members of your group who fail to show up or if your group size reduces after full payment has been received.


Gift Voucher Policy

Gift Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase. The performance must be booked within this 12-month period but the performance itself can be for a date outside of this period.

There is no minimum amount for gift vouchers.

Gift Vouchers may be redeemed online, over the phone, by post or in person at Opera Australia, 480 Elizabeth Street Surry Hills.

Where the value of items purchased is greater than the value of the gift voucher, the difference is payable by the gift voucher recipient. Where the value of items is purchased is less than the value of the gift voucher, the remaining value will be held on account by Opera Australia for future purchases by the gift voucher holder. Original expiry conditions will apply.

The recipient must provide full contact details when redeeming a gift voucher.

The gift voucher identification code must be quoted when redeeming.

Lost, stolen or deleted gift vouchers cannot be replaced.

Opera Australia's standard processing and handling fees will apply on redemption of gift voucher.

Gift vouchers can only be redeemed for events sold directly through Opera Australia. Gift vouchers issued by Opera Australia cannot be redeemed for tickets purchased through venue box offices or other agencies selling tickets to performances by Opera Australia.

Price and availability

Orders are subject to availability. Opera Australia works with a third party supplier and orders stock according to expected demand. Opera Australia attempts to ensure that the amount of stock availability is accurate however unexpected demand or supply difficulties may mean that delivery costs and times may vary from the below. If we are unable to fulfil your order for any reason we will contact you, and refund the payment you have made.

Every attempt has been made to ensure that the descriptions, prices and specifications listed on this website are correct. All dimensions are approximate and although we endeavour to represent colours accurately, some variations may occur.

Opera Australia reserves the right to cancel orders when an error has occurred in pricing or when it believes that the order is fraudulent. If an order is cancelled, the full amount of the order will be refunded.

If the package containing the product purchased is mis-addressed by Opera Australia then Opera Australia will be responsible for the re-delivery, replacement or refunding of the product. However, if the address is in accordance with information provided by the customer and is found to be incorrect or if the package cannot be delivered to that address then Opera Australia will not be required to re-send or refund the product and all responsibility for the redelivering or replacement will be borne by the customer.

Returns

If you wish to return a product for any reason, you must do so within 28 days of delivery. The product must be returned in its original and unopened packaging in order for Opera Australia to refund you the cost of the product.

If an item is defective or damaged on delivery you must state the nature of the defect or damage on return in order to be considered for refund.

All returns must be posted securely or delivered by hand to The Opera Centre in Sydney or Melbourne. Please include a copy of your order confirmation, and provide a reason for the return.  You will not be reimbursed for return shipping unless the item is faulty.

Returns are dealt with as soon as they arrive, but please allow 14 days for your return to be processed. Your refund will be processed to the credit card with which you originally paid for your order.

Delivery costs and times

Delivery times vary depending on destination and source.  The size, weight and distance your parcel has to travel will determine how much postage your item costs.

Opera Australia endeavours to ensure that delivery timeframes given are accurate. However the delivery times stated for products are based on the availability of stock from our suppliers. By placing an order with Opera Australia you agree not to hold Opera Australia liable for any loss or damage directly or indirectly arising out of or in connection with any delay or failure to deliver within the estimated timeframe.

Shipping costs are based on those charged by Australia Post, and may change without notice.

Domestic Delivery is lodged through Australia Post standard parcel delivery services. Regular postal delivery is between 1-5 days working days of lodgement.

Overseas customers can choose to have their goods shipped to an international address.

Where we have noted approximate delivery times, these are estimates only and cannot be guaranteed. Opera Australia is not be liable for any late delivery and is not be liable for any loss, damage or delay occasioned to the customer or any other persons arising from late delivery. 

Opera Australia will ship items up to 2kg in weight. For orders beyond 2kg, please contact Opera Australia to arrange.

All prices include Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Opera Australia cannot be responsible for incorrect purchases relating to compatibility. You must ensure that the CD or DVD is of a type that can be played in the equipment used by you. For example, some SACD discs cannot be played on all CD players and Blu Ray DVDs can only be played on Blu Ray players. Opera Australia will refund or exchange for equal value to the original if the packaging is unopened and saleable, but postage costs will not be refunded.


Ring Leaders

  1. Your donation as a Ring Leader is tax deductible and a receipt will be issued for your donation. Opera Australia is registered as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR).
  2. Platinum, Diamond and Gold Ring Leaders may pay their donation in full or make a commitment now and pay their pledge in three equal instalments, with pledges to be paid in full by 31 August 2016.
  3. The Melbourne Ring Cycle will be performed at Arts Centre Melbourne in November and December 2016.
  4. Ring Leader privileges will apply to those people who specifically join the Ring Leader program.
  5. Membership of the Ring Leader program does not confer the privileges of membership of Opera Australia's Patron Program
  6. Membership of the Ring Leader program does not include the cost of tickets to The Melbourne Ring Cycle.
  7. Privileges of the Ring Leader program apply to the Ring Leader and their guest, and not to ancillary ticket holders.
  8. Ancillary ticket holders accompanying Ring Leaders at the Gold Level and above will have access to the Ring Leaders Lounge.
