Abraham Bretón

The Mexican-Spanish tenor Abraham Breton is currently emerging with a very promising and exciting operatic career. He has been a member of the “Oper Frankfurt” studio for the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons, appearing in several supporting roles in a number of operas including Die Zauberflote of Mozart, Madama Butterfly of Puccini, and Otello of Rossini. In addition, he was highly praised for his portrayal of the role of Don Jose in Bizet’s Carmen. Season 2024/2025 holds the addition of the role of the Duke in Verdi’s Rigoletto as well as the role of Flavio in Bellini’s Norma, adding a supporting role in Rossini’s Bianca e Falliero.  Another highlight of 2025 will be a debut in Australia with Opera Australia at the famous Sydney opera house as Don Jose in Bizet’s Carmen.

During his career Abraham Breton has performed a wide variety of roles including Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), Alfredo (La traviata), Roméo (Roméo et Juliette), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Manrico (Il trovatore), Duca di Mantova (Rigoletto) Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), Rodolfo (La bohème), Roberto in Puccin’s first opera, (Le villi), and Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor). Among other performances over recent seasons, he has appeared twice at New York’s Carnegie Hall as a featured soloist with G. Verdi’s Messa da Requiem and his return in 2024 with Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, both garnering public and critical acclaim.

Abraham Breton’s academic preparation includes major programs and universities in several countries, including the American Institute of Musical Studios (AIMS) in Austria, the Santa Fe Opera Apprentice Program in New Mexico, the Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) in Philadelphia P.A., Artescénica in Mexico, the International Society of Mexican Art Values (SIVAM), Oberlin in Italy, the National School of Music (UNAM) and the Higher Institute of Music of the State of Veracruz (ISMEV) among others. His unquestionable talent led him to receive awards such as the Placido Domingo scholarship and the ArteMusica – Stiftung scholarship. He was distinguished as a winner at the “Metropolitan Opera N. C. A.” in the Philadelphia P.A. district in 2020. He was also a finalist in the international “Belvedere Competition” in 2019.
