Alexandra Elvin
Double Bass

Alexandra (Lexie) Elvin is a double bassist from Brisbane. She studied with Phoebe Russell at the University of Queensland and graduated with a Bachelor of Music. She also holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from UQ.
In 2024, Lexie was the double bass Fellow with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Throughout the program, her primary teacher and mentor was Dylan Holly, and she also had lessons from Dave Campbell, Kees Boersma and Alex Henery, as well as guidance from the other members of the section. She is also a frequent casual musician with the Queensland, Sydney and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestras, as well as the Opera Australia Orchestra.
She has previously been part of Australian Youth Orchestra programs, frequently as Principal and Associate Principal, and participated in fellowships with the Adelaide and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras.
Lexie has performed with prominent chamber groups, such as Ensemble Q and Southern Cross Soloists. Her most notable performance was Paul Dean’s bass duets 7 Lockdown Miniatures with Phoebe Russell. As part of the SSO Fellowship, she performed in many chamber concerts, including a Baroque program with Erin Helyard at the Sydney Opera House.
She has extensive experience as a soloist, frequently performing with orchestras and in recitals. Highlights include Koussevitzky Double Bass Concerto with the Indooroopilly Chamber Orchestra, Schumann Adagio and Allegro at the Old Museum and Franck’s Violin Sonata as her final UQ recital. She also had the privilege to perform Franck’s Violin Sonata for Karen Gomyo in a masterclass as part of the SSO Fellowship.
Lexie is very excited to play with the Opera Australia Orchestra as Double Bass Fellow in 2025.
