Dan Dooner

Born in Ottawa, Canada, he studied English and Drama at the universities of Toronto and London. He is a Staff Director at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and has worked extensively in Britain and Europe. He has directed major revivals for The Royal Opera (Les Contes d’Hoffmann, Macbeth on tour to Japan, Fidelio, Un ballo in maschera, L’elisir d’amore, Rigoletto, Così fan tutte, La traviata, Simon Boccanegra 1881 version, Don Pasquale, Der fliegende Holländer), La Scala, Milan (Lohengrin), Glyndebourne (Owen Wingrave, Kát’a Kabanová, The Makropulos Case, Tristan und Isolde, Jenůfa), ENO (Parsifal), Teatro dell’Opera di Roma (Die Zauberflöte), Israeli Opera (Jenůfa), Los Angeles Opera (Der fliegende Holländer) and the Canadian Opera Company (Così fan tutte). In 2010 he co-directed Nikolaus Lehnhoff’s production of Elektra at the Salzburg Festival. Plans include reviving Les Vêpres siciliennes, Macbeth and Falstaff (Royal Opera), Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing) and Don Pasquale (Bilbao).
