Dramatic baritone Douglas McNicol’s career exemplars brilliance in comedy, tragedy, villainy and operetta, with all major opera companies in Australasia. His reputation for excellence in contemporary opera is evidenced with world premiere performances as Tereus (Richard Mills’ Love of the Nightingale), the Lieutenant (John Haddock’s Madeline Lee) Voss (Opera Australia) and Australian premiers of Jake Heggie’s Dead Man Walking (Owen Hart), and Philip Glass’ The Perfect American (Roy Disney).

Repertoire includes Jochanaan (SalomeForza), Rigoletto, Ford, Germont; Puccini’s Scarpia, Jack Rance, Marcello, Sharpless; Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Leporello, Count Almaviva, Papageno, Speaker, Don Alfonso; Bartolo (Il BarbiereHoffmannHansel & GretelCarmenFidelio(Mikado) and Jupiter (Orpheus).

2015 engagements include Bartolo (Barber of Seville) for West Australian Opera, and both the Verdi and Faure Requiems.
