Huy-Nguyen Bui

Huy-Nguyen Bui holds the position of Associate Concertmaster in the Opera Australia Orchestra. Born in Hiroshima, Japan, where he started studying violin aged six, Nguyen went on to study under Jan Tawroszewicz at the University of Canterbury when he was ten. Nguyen first joined the Orchestra in the position of tutti violin while studying for a Bachelor of Music under Charmian Gadd at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

Nguyen was appointed Deputy Concertmaster in 2003, and Associate Concertmaster in 2008. In 2005, Nguyen was Guest Associate Concertmaster for the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra for their tour of Japan, and in 2006 was Guest Assistant Concertmaster for the Orchestra of the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.

Fun fact: A favourite memory of Nguyen’s was playing Richard Strauss’s Salome with Sebastian Weigle on the podium.
