Jean Pierre van der Spuy
Originally from South Africa, Jean-Pierre came to the UK to train at the Guildford School of Acting. Recent credits include directing Oliver! at the Orb Theatre in Tokyo and Osaka and a workshop of Lady M, a new musical currently in development. Prior to this, he co-directed Les Misérables: The Staged Concert which played at the Gielgud and then Sondheim Theatre in the West End; the production was streamed into cinemas worldwide, as well as being recorded and released on DVD. Other credits include directing Porgy and Bess for Grange Park Opera, The Dreamers at Abbey Rd studios, The UK and International tour of Miss Saigon (based on Laurence Connor’s production), Oliver! (Grange Park Opera), Barnum (UK Tour).
Associate Director credits include: Miss Saigon at the Raimund Theatre (Vienna), Mary Poppins (Prince Edward Theatre and Japan), Miss Saigon (Japan), Half A Sixpence (Noel Coward Theatre and CFT), Miss Saigon (Prince Edward Theatre), The Phantom of the Opera (Her Majesty’s Theatre) and The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall in celebration of its 25th Anniversary.
Prior to working as a director Jean-Pierre was an actor appearing in numerous productions both in the West End and on tour.
