Flute
Katie Zagórski is the newly appointed Principal Flute of the Opera Australia Orchestra, known for her expressive sound, spontaneity, and versatility as both a soloist and orchestral musician. A graduate of the Australian National University with First Class Honours and a former scholar at the Australian National Academy of Music, she has been a finalist in the ABC Young Performer of the Year Awards and winner of the Australian International Flute Competition. Her Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship in 2011 marked the beginning of her dynamic professional path.
Katie performs regularly with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and all major Australian symphony orchestras, and has given concerto performances with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria. She has twice been an artist-in-residence at The Banff Centre in Canada, and in 2010 represented Australia at the prestigious Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition.
Recent highlights include winning two Principal Flute appointments and being named runner-up for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra’s Principal Piccolo position, all in the same year. She is delighted to now be performing in her new role with the Opera Australia Orchestra.
Alongside her orchestral career, Katie maintains an active solo and chamber presence and is committed to sharing her artistry with audiences throughout Australia and abroad.
Fun fact: Outside of the pit, Katie’s perfect day is spent with her three young children, soaking up the sun and ocean, and enjoying the company of her ever-loyal Labrador, Maple.
