Lee Wadenpfuhl
Lee grew up in Houston, Texas and started playing the horn at the age of 12, taught initially by his father. He is in the 3rd generation of horn players in his family. By 2006, Lee had finished his studies at the New England Conservatory with his Uncle Jay Wadenpfuhl, who was a member of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
He has appeared as a guest musician with the Boston Symphony and Boston Pops, including appearing on numerous Grammy Award winning recordings as well as domestic and international tours. He has also performed with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Ballet, Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Philharmonic, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, the Richmond Symphony in Virginia, City Music Chamber Orchestra in Cleveland, Ohio, and the Grammy Award winning Boston Modern Orchestra Project. Lee was the principal horn for the Boston Classical Orchestra, Cape Cod Symphony, and the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, he was a member of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, and Odyssey Opera.
As well as being an active orchestral musician, Lee has also performed as a soloist with the Chamber Orchestra of Boston, Boston Landmarks Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Boston, the Rhode Island College Orchestra, Boston University Orchestra, and the Houston Sinfonietta. He was also a faculty member at Rhode Island College.
Lee relocated to his wife’s hometown of Sydney in 2017, where he continues to pursue his performance career in Australia. He played Wagner’s Ring cycle in Melbourne in 2016, and has performed extensively with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Australia Orchestra, and joined as a permanent member in 2023.
