Lucy Maunder

Lucy Maunder graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) in 2006, and the Talent Development Project in 2004 and has since cemented a reputation as one of Australia’s leading stars of musical theatre. Most recently, she played the role of Rizzo in Grease (GFO), earning Helpmann, Glugs and Sydney Theatre Award nominations for her performance in the show’s Australian/Asian tour.



Lucy created the role of Lara opposite Anthony Warlow in the world première of Doctor Zhivago for John Frost (GFO), receiving Helpmann and Sydney Theatre Award nominations for Best Actress in a Musical. Her other credits include Cinderella in Into the Woods (Victorian Opera; Green Room Award Nomination for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical), Gertrude Lawrence in Noël and Gertie (CDP Theatre Producers; Glugs Award for Best Actress in a Musical), Polly Peachum in The Threepenny Opera (STC/Malthouse/Victorian Opera), Janet in The Rocky Horror Show (TML Enterprises), Anne Egerman in A Little Night Music (Opera Australia), Carly in Neil LaBute’s Reasons to be Pretty (Darlinghurst Theatre), Lois Lane in It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s Superman and Annabel Glick in Lucky Stiff (Neglected Musicals), Young Mary O’Hara in The Harp on the Willow (Malcolm Cooke & Associates) and Gale Edwards’ New Rocky Horror Show (Newtheatricals/Dainty).



Lucy’s one-woman show Irving Berlin: Songs in the Key of Black toured Australia to critical acclaim in venues such as the Hayes Theatre in Sydney, Adelaide Cabaret Festival and The Famous Spiegeltent in Melbourne, amongst others. She has since released her debut album of the same name featuring songs from the show, which is available to purchase on iTunes. Lucy was the recipient of the ASCAP/TDP Bound for Broadway scholarship and subsequently performed in her own cabaret Give Me Gold at Don’t Tell Mama in New York City. Her other cabaret/concert credits include Sondheim on Sondheim (Melbourne Recital Centre), Love, War, Death, Brel (Adelaide Cabaret Festival), Side by Side by Sondheim (Enda Markey/GPAC), The Sound of Rodgers (City Recital Hall, Sydney), Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye (Hamer Hall, Melbourne), Mad About Coward (State Theatre, Melbourne), the Australian Philharmonic Orchestra’s New Year’s Eve Gala Concerts 2011/12 (Sydney Opera House/State Theatre, Melbourne), NSW Premier’s Gala Christmas Concerts (Sydney Entertainment Centre), and Elegies for Angels, Punks and Raging Queens (Mardi Gras, Seymour Centre).



Lucy’s screen credits include the short film Identical which is due for release later this year, the feature film The Eternity Man (ABC/Channel 4 UK) and numerous television appearances including Carols in the Domain, Mornings, The Morning Show and Mornings with Kerri-Anne. In July and August of this year Lucy will perform in the Australian Premiere of Heathers: The Musical at the Hayes Theatre as villain Heather Chandler.



Lucy played the role of Emma Carew in the TML Enterprises production of Jekyll & Hyde in 2009 touring South Korea and is thrilled to be reprising her role in this exciting new reworking of the show in Australia.
