Martin Crewes
Martin has enjoyed a diverse international career both on stage and screen. He was recently seen in the Sydney Theatre Company/Michael Cassel Group Production of Dear Evan Hansen in the role of Larry Murphy and as Charles Milne in the BBC/Stan TV drama Ten Pound Poms. He appeared as Sam Carmichael in the Australian Tour of Mamma Mia! and as Dave Knight in the feature film Everything in Between. In 2022, Martin played Monsieur Andre in the Handa Opera production of The Phantom of the Opera on Sydney Harbour directed by Simon Philips for whom he also created the role of Steve Blauner in his highly acclaimed production of Dream Lover. Martin’s other stage credits include a triple turn as Charlie, Vittorio and Oscar in Dean Bryant’s award winning production of Sweet Charity, and Pasha/Strelnikov in Doctor Zhivago. Other stage credits include Assassins, Sondheim On Sondheim, South Pacific, Guys and Dolls, Chess, Hair, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Aspects of Love, Oh! What a Night, The Man From Snowy River Arena Spectacular and West Side Story. He created the role of Walter Hartright in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s The Woman in White on London’s West End where he also played Marius in Les Misérables as well as performing lead roles in Pal Joey, The Rink and Merry Wives the Musical for the Royal Shakespeare Company with Dame Judy Dench.
Martin’s other film credits include Patrick, Resident Evil, and DOA: Dead or Alive. He has appeared on television in A Place To Call Home, Crownies, Daylight Robbery, Dream Team as lead ‘Luis Rodriguez’, Casualty, Heartbeat, Neighbours, Bad Girls, and The Grand.
Martin has received numerous award nominations and wins. He won Green Room Awards for Hair and Sweet Charity as well as nominations for The Man From Snowy River Arena Spectacular and Chess. He received Helpmann Award nominations for Oh! What a Night, Sweet Charity, Dream Lover and Doctor Zhivago, for which he won a Sydney Theatre Award, and a What’s Onstage Award nomination for The Woman in White.
