Matt Heyward
As a creative, Matt most recently worked as Assistant Director for both Tarzan – The Stage Musical (JTC), and Guys and Dolls on Sydney Harbour (Opera Australia/Handa Opera).
On stage, he has performed in The Phantom of the Opera (Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour) for which he was also the Assistant Dance Captain. Other credits with Opera Australia include My Fair Lady (directed by Dame Julie Andrews) and Dance Captain for The Secret Garden which sadly never made it to the stage due to the pandemic.
A career performer and consummate professional, Matt is constantly working both on stage and behind the scenes. He recently toured as Vernon Presley in Elvis: A Musical Revolution. Prior to this he appeared as The Others in Ghost Stories (Athenaeum Theatre) and also worked as Resident Director for the production. Other recent credits include Billy Elliot (Louise Withers and Associates) and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (TEG Life Like). Matt performed in, and was Dance Captain for A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder (The Production Company).
Matt made his professional debut in the original Australian production of Mamma Mia! (Dainty Consolidated). He also appeared in Mary Poppins (Cameron Mackintosh), Les Misérables (Michael Cassel Group), The Producers (Gordon Frost Organisation), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (The Production Company), Spamalot (Louise Withers and Associates), The Addams Family (New Theatricals), The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Victorian Theatre Company), The Boy from Oz (The Production Company), Eurobeat (Glynn Nicholas Group), Damn Yankees, Mame, The Boyfriend and Sugar – Some Like It Hot (The Production Company). Matt is also regularly engaged as a director for various training institutions around the country.
