Ranald McCusker
Scottish lyric tenor Ranald McCusker completed his Bachelor of Music and Master’s of Music degrees at the Royal Northern College of music in Manchester, UK. His first performance with Opera Australia was in the 2022 production of La Juive.
Ranald has performed at numerous UK festivals and concert halls including the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, The Edinburgh Festival and The Bridgewater Hall. He has performed small roles and in the chorus of companies including The Grange Festival, Wexford Festival Opera, Scottish Opera, Buxton Festival Opera.
Recent role appearances include Isepo in La Gioconda for Opera Australia, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni for Allo Opera, Eddie in William Bolcom’s Dinner at Eight for Wexford Festival Opera, Parpignol (La Boheme) and Don Arias (Le Cid) for Dorset Opera, and Gardefeu in the RNCM’s production of La Vie Parisienne. He recently covered the roles of Nathanael and Spalanzani in Opera Australia’s Les Contes d’Hoffmann, and is covering the role of Laertes in the upcoming production of Brett Dean’s Hamlet.
Ranald has appeared on recordings including a CD of Julian Dawes’s music Love, Life and Lyric, a record of Naji Hakim’s works Embrace of Fire, and a recording of Philip Stopford’s music In My Father’s House with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
In addition to his work as a singer, Ranald works as a professional accompanist and coach.
