Background: Dividing his time between Sydney and Europe, Benedict has established himself as one of the most sought after Australian theatre directors of his generation.

Other Companies: Recent work includes Gross und Klein (Sydney Theatre Company); Monetverdi’s Return of Ulysses (London’s Young Vic and the English National Opera); The Seagull (Belvoir); and King Lear (Iceland’s National Theatre, which received six 2011 Gríman Awards, including Best Direction and Play of the Year). Benedict has directed award-winning Australian productions, including Measure For Measure, The City, La Dispute and The Season at Sarsaparilla. In 2009, Benedict’s The War of the Roses with the STC Actors Company and Cate Blanchett received six Helpmann Awards, including Best Play and Best Direction. His international credits include A Streetcar Named Desire and Blackbird (Berlin’s Schaubühne Theatre). In 2012, Benedict will direct Caligula for the English National Opera, Macbeth for the National Theatre of Iceland and Every Breath for Belvoir
