David Fleischer

Set Designer

David is a Sydney-based set and costume designer. He is a NIDA graduate and has worked with directors including Kip Williams, Andrew Upton, Sam Strong, Lee Lewis, Adena Jacobs, Craig Illot and Kate Cherry, and was resident designer for Sydney Theatre Company in 2012 and 2013.

In 2016 David designed The Golden Age as well as Speed the Plow and Power Plays for Sydney Theatre Company. In 2017 he designs the set for Opera Australia’s production of Aida on the Beach.

In 2015 David designed Love and Information with Kip Williams directing for Sydney Theatre Company and Malthouse, Boys Will Be Boys for STC and L'amant Jaloux for Pinchgut Opera.

David’s designs for the Sydney Theatre Company’s 2014 season included Travelling North (set and costume) starring Bryan Brown, Mojo (costume) by Jez Butterworth, Children of the Sun (set) with Jacqueline Mackenzie and Justine Clarke and Calpurnia Descending (set and costume) by Sisters Grimm. He also designed the costumes for  Belvoir production of Hedda Gabler and set and costume for Safety in Numbers at Riverside Paramatta.

In 2013 David’s designs for Sydney Theatre Company included set and costumes for Romeo and Juliet at the Sydney Opera House Playhouse, and Machinal, Fury and Little Mercy at the Wharf. In 2012 David designed the STC production of Marriage Blanc and was associate designer of Under Milk Wood.

David has also designed for the Griffin Theatre Company on their productions Between Two Waves directed by Sam Strong, The Sea Project (as a co-production with independent theatre company Arthur) and The Brothers Size.

David also designed the production of Der Gelbe Stern at the Seymour Centre which was presented as part of Berlin Sydney and in association with the exhibition ‘The Mad Square: modernity in German art 1910-37’ at the AGNSW.
