Irina Lungu

Soprano

With a voice described by the New York Times as “a shimmering soprano of attractive size” with “brightness … bloom and warmth”, Irina Lungu is taking her place among today’s leading opera artists.

Irina Lungu studied piano, choir conducting and singing at the State Academy of Music of Voronezh in 2003. She attended the Accademia del Teatro alla Scala, where her teachers included Leyla Gencer.

She has sung La traviata at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Paris Opéra, Hamburg State Opera, La Scala, Zürich Opera, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Real, Bolshoi Theatre and New National Theatre in Tokyo. Other notable performances include Anna Bolena, Lucia di Lammermoor, Juliette (Roméo et Juliette) and Micaëla (Carmen) for Arena di Verona, Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) for Vienna State Opera, Manon in Bilbao, Gilda (Rigoletto) for Opera Australia, Paris Opéra, the Metropolitan Opera and Rome Opera, Corinna (Il viaggio a Reims) for the Liceu, Barcelona, Mimì (La bohème) for Teatro Regio, Turin, and the Teatro di San Carlo, Marguerite for Dutch National Opera, Musetta for the Metropolitan Opera, Nannetta (Falstaff) for La Scala and Liù (Turandot) for Bavarian State Opera.
