Paolo Bordogna’s expansive baritone range and acting skills have made him one of the world’s best buffo interpreters of today. His repertory includes more than 50 roles (Dandini, Don Magnifico, Dulcamara, Belcore, Don Pasquale, Malatesta, Guglielmo, Don Alfonso, Figaro, Don Bartolo, Don Alvaro, Leporello, Figaro and Il Cont), ranging from baroque to contemporary repertory with a particular preference for Mozart, Rossini and Donizetti.
Since 2005 he has been a regular guest at the Rossini Opera Festival where he performed in several productions such as La gazzetta, La cambiale di matrimonio, La gazza ladra, Belcanto recital, La scala di seta, Le Nozze di Teti e di Peleo, La Cenerentola, Matilde di Shabran, L’occasione fa il ladro, Il barbiere di Siviglia.
A frequent guest with the world’s great opera companies, he performed at Teatro alla Scala, Opéra National de Paris, Teatro Real de Madrid, Liceu de Barcelona, Washington National Opera, München Bayerische Staatsoper, Opéra de Nice, Operà de Toulon, Seul Arts Centre, Sydney Opera House, NCPA in Beijing, Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Regio di Parma, Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
He has worked with conductors such as Roberto Abbado, Yves Abel, Marco Armiliato, Bruno Campanella, Alan Curtis, Alessandro De Marchi, Dan Ettinger, Jesús López Cobos, Michele Mariotti, Kent Nagano, Evelino Pidò, Stefano Ranzani, Donato Renzetti, Corrado Rovaris, Christophe Rousset, Claudio Scimone, Alberto Zedda.
He opened the 2015/16 season performing the tile role in Don Pasquale at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, at Teatro Donizetti di Bergamo and at theatres of Como, Jesi, Cremona and Pavia.
Other roles include Figaro in The Barber of Seville for Opera Australia in Sydney, La Cenerentola at Teatro Regio di Torino, at Teatro Massimo di Palermo and at Opera in Bilbao, Il barbiere di Siviglia at Teatro Comunale di Bologna, at NCPA in Beijing and at Opéra de Marseille, La gazza ladra at Teatro alla Scala, Cenerentola and Le nozze di Figaro (Figaro) at Staatsoper in Munich.
During the 2014/15 season he performed L’elisir d’amore (Dulcamara) at Opéra de Marseille, followed by Don Pasquale (title role) in Rovigo, Il turco in Italia (Don Geronio) at Teatro Regio di Torino and La Cenerentola (Don Magnifico) at Washington Opera, The Marriage of Figaro (Figaro) Opera Australia in Sydney, Pasquale (title role) at Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, as well as his much awaited Wiener Staatsoper debut as Leporello in Don Giovanni.
His large discography include several recordings with Decca, Naxos, Dynamic, Bongiovanni, Opus Arte labels. In April 2015 he released his first solo album Tutto Buffo for Decca.
Born in Milan, he studied at the Accademia Lirica Internazionale di Desenzano del Garda and at the Accademia Rossiniana di Pesaro with Alberto Zedda. In 2000 he won the Caruso Award and in 2006 the Bastianini Award.
