Unfortunately, we've had to suspend our regular annual subscription program for 2021. Instead, we'll be offering a range of benefits to existing subscribers, including a 15% discount on tickets, as well as a discount to anybody who books three or more operas at a time.


Frequently asked questions for subscribers

What are Opera Australia’s plans for 2021?

We’ll be performing grand opera seasons in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and taking our national tour of Carmen and schools tours on the road. We’re also adding some brand-new experiences to our programming, which we’re excited to unveil in the coming months.

While we usually announce a full year of productions in August, we’ll announce our 2021 performances as they're confirmed. This will allow us to be more flexible as COVID-19 restrictions change and offer our audience greater certainty — and safety — as they book tickets.

Why can’t you offer me my annual subscription package?

While we’ve got exciting plans and are committed to a big year of performances, we don’t know exactly what our complete 2021 season looks like yet.

We are quickly locking in a thrilling set of Sydney performances for the early part of the year, but as restrictions relating to audience capacity, performers and travel evolve, we continue to revise our plans for later months. We’re used to announcing concrete performance plans up to 18 months in advance, but 18 months is a very long time during a global pandemic.

Where is my brochure?

The 2021 season will be announced gradually, as projects are confirmed, so we are unable to send you a brochure. You can see what's on as we release more information. Sign up for our enewsletter to hear about them first.

Will existing subscribers receive a discount on tickets purchased for 2021 performances?

We’re pleased to offer our existing subscribers a 15% discount on all their ticket purchases throughout 2021. To access the discount, please and select your tickets. If you have any questions, please call our box office on 02 9318 8200.

I’m not an existing subscriber, but going to 3 or more performances. Will I receive a subscriber discount?

Yes, if you buy tickets for 3 or more performances in one transaction, you will receive 15% discount.

Will I get my regular seats?

Unfortunately, we’re not able to guarantee Set Series subscribers their seats throughout 2021. This is because social distancing measures require us to significantly revise our seating plan to keep our audience safe.

However, we will be offering subscribers a priority presale for every production throughout the year. We expect demand for tickets to be high, but subscribers should be able to access seats in their preferred area of the theatre if they book during the priority window.

Can I go on my regular nights?

You can choose any performance date when you purchase tickets.

Will I be able to get my seats back in the future?

Yes. Regardless of whether you purchase tickets in 2021, if you are a Set Series subscriber we will hold your seats for the 2022 season. We’ll invite you to renew your subscription next year in the usual way.

How are you keeping audiences safe?

The Sydney Opera House has a COVID Safe plan registered with the NSW Government. The plan involves reduced venue capacities and physically-distanced theatre seating, regular cleaning of high-traffic and high-touch areas with hospital-grade disinfectant, hand sanitiser stations in all paths of travel, COVID-19 safety training for staff, and on-site COVID-19 Safe Hygiene Marshals.

What if I’m sick on the day of the performance?

For the safety and wellbeing of everyone, you must not attend a performance if you feel unwell or are displaying any of the COVID-19 symptoms as identified by NSW Health (such as fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, loss of smell or loss of taste). You can exchange your tickets up to three hours before a performance.

What if I can’t attend for another reason?

You will be able to exchange your tickets up to three hours before a performance.

Will distancing affect wheelchair/companion seating and numbers per performance?

Yes, we will follow government guidelines. At present, only 50% of the seats can be sold, to ensure distance. This will apply for wheelchair and companion seating as well.

Why are there no D, E and F Reserves?

While we are only able to sell 50% of the seats, we have had to reduce the number of price reserves on offer. Tickets start from $79.

Will there be pre-show talks?

There will be no pre-show talks for performances in January – March 2021.

I have a voucher. If there’s nothing I want to see in 2021 will it be extended?

Your voucher is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

I can’t travel to Sydney because of travel restrictions. Can I get a refund?

Yes.

How to buy tickets in 2021

I am a 2019 or 2020 season subscriber

To purchase tickets to our 2021 productions and receive your 15% discount, first .

You can then see all of our upcoming events and decide which productions you'd like to see. If you are signed in, the ticket prices you see will reflect the 15% discount, which has been automatically applied.

Select tickets for each production you'd like to see and add them to your cart. You can see what tickets you have selected by hitting the 'cart' icon in the top right hand corner of the page.

When you have selected all of your tickets, you can then check out via your cart.

I am not an existing subscriber

Explore all of our upcoming events and decide which productions you'd like to see. From November 19, you'll be able to select tickets for each production and add them to your cart. You can see what tickets you have selected by hitting the 'cart' icon in the top right hand corner of the page.

When you have selected all of your tickets, you can then check out via your cart. If there are tickets for three or more productions, a 15% discount will be automatically applied when you check out.

I have a gift voucher or exchange credit

When you have selected your productions and are ready to check out, continue through to the shopping cart. On the payment page, there is a box where you can enter your gift certificate number. The value of your gift certificate will be applied to your purchase.
