The Company
OA is Australia’s national opera company with an international reputation for artistic excellence. It is recognised as one of the country's most significant cultural assets and one of the world’s most celebrated performing arts companies.
A critical part of OA’s strategy is producing musical theatre that generates commercial returns, which in turn helps subsidise opera production and the maintaining of a full-time workforce. The Company’s musical theatre productions and other commercial activities are vital for its continuing sustainability.
Senior Leadership Role
Based at The Opera Centre, Surry Hills, Sydney.
Opera Australia (OA) is seeking an experienced and visionary Commercial Director to join our senior leadership team. The newly created role reports directly to the CEO and will play a crucial role in shaping OA’s future. You will do this through leveraging existing commercial revenue streams and driving new opportunities, in alignment with OA’s Strategic Plan.
Current commercial activities include musical theatre and commercial concerts in Australia and Asia; broadcasting, streaming, and licensing; hire of studios, sets, costumes and props; food, beverage, and merchandise particularly at Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour.
The ideal candidate for this role has significant experience in commercial musical theatre licensing, production or management, or a related sector in entertainment, such as live music touring, or film studios. You must demonstrate a proven track-record of driving revenue and managing commercial activities, with a solid understanding of live performance, intellectual property and rights.
