Aida on sydney harbour 2027 - Chorus Expression of Interest
Opera Australia invites expressions of interest from experienced singers for potential casual engagement in the chorus of Aida for Opera on Sydney Harbour 2027. This is an expression of interest only, and submission of an application does not guarantee an audition, engagement, or offer of employment.

Following its spectacular and acclaimed appearance on Sydney Harbour in 2015, Verdi's Aida returns in 2027 under the direction of Gale Edwards.
Aida will be performed in Italian, and applicants should be comfortable rehearsing and performing in Italian. Opera on Sydney Harbour is an outdoor, all-weather event performed on a raked stage. The production can be physically demanding and may involve extended periods of standing, navigating stairs, and performing in varying weather conditions. Please note that access to some performance and backstage areas is via stairs only.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be aged 18 years or over.
- Be based in or around Sydney for the rehearsal and performance period.
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or hold a valid visa permitting employment in Australia.
- Be available for the rehearsal and performance schedule.
- Be comfortable rehearsing and performing in an outdoor environment.
Applicants are encouraged to carefully review the indicative schedule below and declare any known availability conflicts as part of their application. The schedule is indicative only and subject to change. A confirmed schedule will be provided to applicants prior to any audition invitations and prior to any engagement offers being made.
Indicative Schedule*
Auditions: 1-2 December 2026 | Rehearsals: Late January to mid-March 2027
- Music rehearsals primarily weekday evenings and Saturdays
- Production rehearsals primarily daytime, Monday to Saturday
Performance season: 27 March - 25 April 2027
- Evening performances Tuesday to Sunday
- No Monday performances
- Approximately 28 performances

General auditions for Singers
Our General Auditions are held regularly for singers to audition for our Casual Chorus list. Successful singers are then considered for work with the Opera Australia Chorus. Please note that these General Auditions are not suitable for Musical Theatre performers or anyone under the age of 18.

To submit a complete expression of interest for the position, applicants must:
1. Complete the application form, including a current CV. Excerpts will be shared by email shortly after receiving your application.
2. Submit an audio-visual recording of the required concerto and orchestral excerpts by 4 January 2027. Submission instructions can be found on the last page of the information pack.
