Opera Australia Young Artist Program – Singer

 Applications are now open for Opera Australia’s revitalised Young Artist Program (OAYAP) – generously supported by Principal Patron, Maureen Wheeler AO.

This 18-month, full-time program is based in Sydney and overseas, offering up to seven positions (4–5 singers, 1 répétiteur, 1 director). Participants receive a full-time salary and moving allowance, enabling them to fully focus on their artistic and career development.

Young Artists benefit from:

  • Vocal and dramatic coaching
  • Language classes
  • Career guidance
  • Assistant/cover roles, scenes and recital performances and mainstage work

Ideal candidates show exceptional vocal talent, adaptability, creativity, and stage presence with a passion for storytelling and a commitment to exploring new ideas.

Freelance auditions for the Opera Australia Orchestra

Orchestral instrumentalists seeking casual work with the OAO are invited to submit an expression of interest through the online application form below.

In advance of the scheduled audition you will be contacted to confirm your ongoing interest and schedule an audition time.

Our General Auditions are held regularly for singers to audition for our Casual Chorus list. Successful singers are then considered for work with the Opera Australia Chorus. Please note that these General Auditions are not suitable for Musical Theatre performers or anyone under the age of 18.
