Blake Appelqvist

Blake Appelqvist (they/them) is a Māori (Ngāti Porou) and Swedish multidisciplinary artist who graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music Theatre). They are most known for their Green Room Nominated performance of “Romeo” in & Juliet (Michael Cassel Group) and “Clyde Barrow” in Bonnie & Clyde (Joshua Robson Productions). Blake portrayed “Harry” on the Aria Nominated FANGIRLS World Premiere Cast Recording (Yve Blake/Belvoir), “Demetrius” on The Lovers (Laura Murphy/Bell Shakespeare) and “Corrin” on A Transgender Woman on the Internet, Crying (Cassie Hamilton/Green Door Theatre Company) alongside playing these characters onstage, and originated both “Kaden” in threadbare (Nick Mayer) and “Sir Garfield Barwick” in The Dismissal (Squabbalogic).

They proudly co-produce Theys at the Hayes with the Hayes Theatre Company, a variety night showcasing the expanding catalogue of home grown trans, nonbinary and gender diverse talent within the theatre industry – generously supported by Michael Cassel Group and Global Creatures.
