Chanyang Choi

Chanyang Choi was born in South Korea and she completed her Bachelor of Music at Kyung Hee University in Seoul.

Choi made her debut as Giovanna in Rigoletto in 2009 at Seongnam Arts Center, Seoul and in the same year, she won South Korea’s Sung Jong Competition, Um Jong Haeng Competition and the Busan Daily Newspaper Competition.

In 2013, she moved to Australia and joined Opera Australia’s Chorus before continuing her studies in Italy in 2015. Choi studied at the Conservatorio di Musica G. Nicollini in Italy and received her Masters of Music (Vocal) in 2018. While studying she received a scholarship from Borsa di Studio Gianni Poggi, second place at the Arturo Toscanini International Competition, and third place at the Concorso Internazionale per Giovani Cantanti lirici “Ismaele Voltolini”

During her time in Italy, she performed Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, the Old Lady in Candide Lola in Cavalleria Rusticana, and as a soloist in Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle. and returned to Seongnam Arts Center, Seoul to perform Getrud in Hänsel und Gretel.

Choi returned to Australia in 2019 to become a full-time chorus member, covering Amneris in Aida in 2021.
