Desiree Frahn

Originally hailing from country South Australia, Soprano Desiree Frahn is best known for her captivating performances in both classic and contemporary operatic roles. She is a graduate of the Elder Conservatorium and the James & Diana Ramsey Foundation Opera Program.

She has performed extensively as a principal artist for State Opera South Australia, including such roles as Musetta (La bohème), Leïla (Les pêcheurs de perles), Julie (Carousel), Vixen (Cunning Little Vixen) Valencienne (The Merry Widow), Lauretta (Gianni Schicchi), Rose Pickles (Cloudstreet! – World Premiere), Pamina (Magic Flute), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Mabel (Pirates of Penzance), Johanna (Sweeney Todd), and sung as a soloist in their Ukaria recital series, regional tours, concerts and radio broadcasts.

2024 saw her performing around the country for Opera Australia and Victorian Opera in the lead role of Ellen Holland, for the world premiere season of Johnathan Mill’s Eucalyptus. In 2025 she returned to Victorian Opera to sing the title role in Janacek’s Katja Kabanova – a critically acclaimed performance for which she won “Outstanding Performer in a Leading Role” at the most recent Green Room Awards.

2026 performances include a return to Adelaide to sing the role of Micaëla in their jubilee production of Carmen.

Desiree performs regularly as a soloist with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in both new and established works, including several recordings and world premieres, and is a familiar face at chamber festivals and concerts across the state.
