Fiona Jopson

Australian soprano Fiona Jopson has been acclaimed for her “gleaming soprano ripe with elegance, dynamism and flexibility” and “her widely expressive Soprano impressing from the steaming lower range through to her evenly controlled top notes”.

Fiona was a member of the Wiener Staatsoper Principal Ensemble from 2018 to 2020. During this time she sang Erste Dame (Die Zauberflöte), Helmwige (Die Walküre), Dritte Norn (tterdämmerung) and Dama  di Lady (Macbeth) and covered major roles including Elisabetta di Valois (Don Carlo), Desdemona (Otello), Leonora (Il Trovatore), Mimi (La Bohème),Tatyana (Eugene Onegin), Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos), Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) and Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro).

In the 19/20 season she performed Dama di Lady (Macbeth) alongside Plácido Domingo in the title role and took on the role of Griselda in Alma Deutscher’s well known opera Cinderella.

In Australia, engagements have included Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos) for OperaBox, Leonora (Il Trovatore) and Mimi (La Bohème) for Citi Opera. She also has a wide repertoire including Aïda, Cio Cio San (Madama Butterfly), Giorgetta (Il Tabarro), Sieglinde (Die Walküre), Elsa (Lohengrin).

Other performance appearances have included Soprano Solos in the 150th Anniversary Year of the Wiener Staatsoper, Matinees presenting new productions of Madama Butterfly, Un Ballo in Maschera, Fidelio Urfassung (Leonore) and Dantons Tod for the Wiener Staatsoper, Bach’s Magnificat in D and Mass in F Major, recitals of operatic arias and Lieder, including Mahler’s Rückert Lieder.

Fiona has enjoyed considerable success in singing competitions winning the 2015 Herald Sun Aria, the 2018 Vienna State Opera Award (Opera Foundation for young Australians) and was the Recipient 2014 Fellowship Accademia alla Scala (Acclaim Awards).
