In 2023 Northern Irish soprano Giselle Allen revived Tosca for Opera North and sang Praskov’ya Osipovna Nos (The Nose) at La Monnaie, Brussels and 3rd Norn Götterdämmerung for Opernhaus Zürich. Celebrated for her strong character portrayals, other highlights include Elektra for Irish National Opera, Miss Jessel The Turn of the Screw for La Monnaie (live-streamed to European audiences) and Ellen Orford at Bergen International Festival, Berlin’s Komische Oper and Aldeburgh Music’s production of Grimes on the Beach (released on DVD). Previously Giselle sang Marie Wozzeck, Tatyana Eugene Onegin and Helena A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the Canadian Opera Company andParassia Sorochintsky Fair and Suor Angelica at the Singapore Lyric Theatre. In concert Giselle sang Gutrune, Gerhilde and Freia Der Ring des Nibelungen in Opera North’s celebrated UK concert stagings, conducted by Richard Farnes. She has also appeared under the concert baton of conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Gennadi Rozhdestvensky, Sir David Willcocks and Marin Alsop, and has recorded with the Ulster Orchestra under Vernon Handley.
