Julia McRae

Julia McRae is a Brisbane-based operatic and musical theatre performer, having obtained a Bachelor of Music Degree and Post-Graduate Diploma in Voice from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. Julia has studied opera and language in both Italy and Austria and has been a finalist in many of Australia’s National Operatic competitions including the Vienna State Opera Award and The German Operatic Award (both by the Opera Foundation) and was the winner of the 2004 National Operatic Aria Competition in Canberra.

Julia has been working for Opera Australia for nearly three decades, including work as a full-time chorister at the Sydney Opera House, as a performer in the OzOpera Schools Touring Programme which brings opera to the primary school children of NSW, and in various other productions including La Boheme (HOSH); A Little Night Music; Sweeney Todd and The Gondoliers.

More recently, Julia joined the cast of The Phantom of the Opera World Tour both in 2015 and then again in 2019, both as ensemble member and Madame Giry understudy. Julia also had the unforgettable and extraordinary privilege of working with Dame Julie Andrews in the 60th Anniversary Production of My Fair Lady, on the 2016/2017 Australian tour and is thrilled to be able to join this stellar production once again for the 2026 season. Julia performs regularly on the corporate scene, and currently tours the world with her husband, Douglas McRae, performing on cruise ships as the operatic duo, Innamorati.
