Kelly Tang
Tutti Violin
Kelly first picked up the violin at the age of six through school group lessons, where she discovered a lifelong love of music. She continued her studies on scholarship throughout both school and university, performing extensively during her early years. Although she initially pursued studies outside of music, her passion ultimately led her back, and she completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) under the guidance of Professor Goetz Richter and Christopher Kimber.
Kelly has performed with many of Australia’s leading orchestras and was a fellow with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, as well as the Oberstdorf Academy in Germany. In 2020, she won the tutti violin job with the Opera Australia Orchestra.
A fun early memory: Kelly’s first violin teacher was renowned Australian composer Matthew Hindson, who taught her a song about “Mr Fox” eating her bow—something she has never forgotten.
Fun fact #2: A self-confessed school-day nerd, Kelly once created a “Game of Mozart” board game and is still waiting for a gaming company to pick it up—she remains open to challengers.
