Leah Purcell AM

Leah Purcell AM is an internationally acclaimed Actor, Director, Producer and Writer on stage and screen, and a proud Goa-Gunggari-Wakka Wakka Murri woman from Queensland.

Leah recently finished filming High Country Season 2 and launched her children’s book The Drover’s Son. She starred opposite Sigourney Weaver in The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (Amazon Studios/Endeavor Content/Made Up Stories), and also appeared in the drama series High Country Season 1 (Curio Pictures/Foxtel/Binge/Sony TV USA) and the feature film Shayda (Executive Producer, Cate Blanchett), which had its world premiere at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. As one of Australia’s most in-demand actors, Leah has appeared in acclaimed films including The Last Cab to Darwin, Lantana, Jindabyne and The Proposition, and television series including Wentworth, Police Rescue, Redfern Now and Janet King.

Leah’s critically aclaimed debut feature film, The Drover’s Wife The Legend of Molly Johnson, which she produced, directed, wrote and starred in, premiered in competition at SXSW 2021 and was released theatrically in the United States. Based on her multi-award-winning play The Drover’s Wife, the film earned Leah AACTA, Australian Directors’ Guild and Film Critics Circle of Australia awards, along with international recognition including the Asia Pacific Screen Award Grand Jury Prize. An accomplished television director and writer, Leah has directed acclaimed series including Cleverman, Redfern Now, My Life Is Murder and Secret Daughter, and continues to develop new plays, television series and feature films while championing powerful First Nations stories for Australian and international audiences.
