Matt Scott
Matt is one of Australia’s leading lighting designers with 30 years’ experience in the industry designing more than 350 productions for Theatre, Opera, Dance and Musical Theatre. Based in Melbourne he has worked both nationally and internationally with a diverse list of companies and producers. Designs for Opera Australia include Candide, Les Pêcheurs de Perles, Rigoletto, La Sonnambula, Aida (Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour), La Bohème, Anything Goes (with Gordon Frost Organisation), Le Nozze di Figaro, Die Zauberflöte, Don Giovanni and Madama Butterfly (Regional Tours). Other recent work includes The Coronation of Poppea, Candide, The Who’s Tommy (Victorian Opera); Kimberly Akimbo (State Theatre of South Australia, Melbourne Theatre Company); Jacky (Belvoir, Melbourne Theatre Company); My Brilliant Career (Melbourne Theatre Company); Fun Home (Sydney Theatre Company, Melbourne Theatre Company); Dear Evan Hansen (Sydney Theatre Company, Michael Cassel Group), Medea, Drizzle Boy (Queensland Theatre) and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Sydney Theatre Company, Red Stich Actor’s Theatre, GWB Entertainment). Matt has been nominated for and won numerous awards including winning two Helpmann Awards for Best Lighting Design, two Green Room Awards for Best Design for an Opera and a Sydney Theatre Award for Best Lighting Design of a Mainstage Production. He is currently a Lecturer in Production – Lighting Design at the University of Melbourne (Victorian College of the Arts).
