Michael Fabiano

The recipient of the 2014 Richard Tucker Award and the 2014 Beverly Sills Artist Award, Michael Fabiano is the first person to win both awards in the same year, and is considered one of the greatest young tenors in the world today. Of his performance as Oronte in Verdi’s I Lombardi Alla Prima Crociata with Opera Orchestra of New York, The New York Times wrote: “What everyone who attended a concert by the Opera Orchestra of New York at Avery Fisher Hall on Monday night seemed to be thinking when the show was over might have been summarized in a Twitter post: ’Michael Fabiano OMG.’ The sentiment was evident whenever that tenor opened his mouth, to judge by the prolonged ovations and shouts that followed.”

In 2014/15, Mr. Fabiano returned to the San Francisco Opera for performances as Rodolfo in La Bohème, and sang Faust at the Opéra National de Paris – Opéra Bastille. He also sang at the Richard Tucker Gala at Lincoln Center, and be prominently featured in a documentary about Italian-Americans.

The 2013/14 season brought with it a variety of concerts and new productions for Mr. Fabiano. He returned to the Opéra National de Paris – Opéra Bastille for performances as Edgardo in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor, made his debut at The Canadian Opera Company as Rodolfo in La Bohème, and sang the Verdi Requiem in a special concert with the San Francisco Opera. In addition, he performed the role of Alfred in a new production of Johann Strauss’ Die Fledermaus at the Metropolitan Opera, made his debut at the Dutch National Opera singing the title role in a new production of Gounod’s Faust, and debuted at Glyndebourne as Alfredo in a new production of Verdi’s La Traviata. Mr. Fabiano also appeared in a sold-out recital for Vocal Arts DC at the Kennedy Center and sang Corrado in Verdi’s Il Corsaro with Washington Concert Opera.

Mr. Fabiano ushered in the 2012/13 season with his return to the Metropolitan Opera for performances as Cassio in Otello. He made his debuts at the Seattle Opera and Opera Lyra Ottawa as Rodolfo in La Bohème, a role he also performed at the Dresden Semperoper. Mr. Fabiano made his debuts at the Casals Festival and with the Oslo Philharmonic in the Verdi Requiem, and with the San Francisco Symphony in two Beethoven concerts: the first featured the song cycle An die ferne Geliebte, and the second, the Missa Solemnis under the direction of Michael Tilson Thomas. He created a sensation singing Oronte in Opera Orchestra of New York’s concert performance of Verdi’s I Lombardi alla Prima Crociata in Avery Fisher Hall, performed in recital at the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, made a highly acclaimed American recital debut as part of the distinguished Harriman-Jewell Series in Kansas City, MO, and this summer he debuted at the Santa Fe Opera as Alfredo in La Traviata.

In the course of the 2011/12 season, Mr. Fabiano made his debuts at the San Francisco Opera as Gennaro in Donizetti’s Lucrezia Borgia, the Teatro Real as Christian in Alfano’s Cyrano de Bergerac, Los Angeles Philharmonic in the world premiere performances of the “Prologue” to Shostakovich’s opera Orango under the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen, The Dream of Gerontius with the Wiener Symphoniker, Grant Park Music Festival (Verdi Requiem), and Rigoletto at Florida Grand Opera. He returned to the Dresden Semperoper for performances in Rigoletto and sang in a staged performance of the Verdi Requiem at Oper Köln. Mr. Fabiano debuted with the Cleveland Orchestra at the Blossom Music Festival, and at the Stern Grove Festival with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra in showcases of arias and duets.

Mr. Fabiano has performed at many of the world’s leading opera houses; a list that includes: the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Teatro Real, Opéra National de Paris, La Scala, Asociacíon Bilbaina de Amigos de la Ópera, Dresden Semperoper, Deutsche Oper Berlin, English National Opera, and the Teatro San Carlo. In addition, he has graced the concert stages with some of the world’s most acclaimed orchestras such as the Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, and the Vienna Symphony.

Mr. Fabiano portrayed Gennaro in the English National Opera’s production of Lucrezia Borgia, in the first-ever, live, 3D simulcast of an opera, and stars in the same role in the DVD of the San Francisco Opera’s production of this opera. He was the tenor soloist in the European broadcast of the Verdi Requiem with the Oslo Philharmonic, and is prominently featured on the world premiere recording of the “Prologue” to Shostakovich’s opera Orangounder the direction of Esa-Pekka Salonen (Deutsche Grammophon).

Mr. Fabiano is the winner of numerous competitions, most notably Grand Prize Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and is a member of the Metropolitan Opera Guild Artists’ Council.
