Naomi Edwards

Director

Naomi Edwards is a theatre and opera director, and arts educator. Trained at Rusden and VCA, her practice spans opera, theatre, and theatre for young audiences, directing for Australia’s leading theatre and opera companies. Most recently Hamlet at Sydney Theatre Co Education, How To Kill Your Husband for Victorian Opera, Helpmann nominated Cautionary Tales for Children for Arena Theatre Co and The Sound of Waves with cochlear implantee Jodie Harris.

For Opera Australia, she was the Assistant Director on Carmen, Don Giovanni, Lakmé, Don Pasquale and Rigoletto, and Director of the primary schools touring productions for Victoria and NSW for the past 4 years, including Hansel and Gretel, The Magic Flute, Barber of Seville and created a new adaptation of La Cenerentola.

Naomi is currently developing several new works – The Waiting Room about the history of IVF for Melbourne Theatre Company, When Moon Dust Falls, an opera for 3 – 8 year olds with David Hobson and Adam Gardnir, for Victorian Opera, Art Play and Royal Children’s Hospital, and stage adaptations of The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.
